Graphic designer

Tower Records Glasgow

This work is a real throwback—all the way back to my days as an in-store designer for Tower Records Glasgow (RIP…😢).

It was a really fun job (although the salary left something to be desired…), but there were very few restrictions on what you could do creatively—just so long as it looked good and sold product.

While I only did a few of the painted album cover displays that Tower stores were famous for, I did work out a way to create detailed halftone images using a vinyl cutter. I kept expecting the process of cutting all of those little dots to eventually break it one day, but it stood up to everything I put it through.

I’ve moved on a lot since then (although it did teach me to keep my paths clean in Illustrator), but it’s fun to look back and see where I came from, and how far I’ve come since then.
