As part of my search for a new position, I’m often presented with design challenges to test my suitability for a role. In some cases, this can raise the spectre of unpaid spec work, but most of the time it gives me a new creative challenge to get my teeth into.
Above is the end result of one of these challenges – a 30-second promo video for a hypothetical “familiarization tour” of Durham Region. I put it together in about a week – storyboarding, scripting, shooting everything and recording the voiceover on my phone. The finished product was put together with After Effects and Premiere, and I’m really happy with how this came out.
